We very proudly share exciting news that MCLD has won a 2016 Residential Merit Award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects for our “Cambridge Garden” located in the heart Cambridge! Submissions for the 2016 Awards reached a record high, and the jury overflowed with heavy hitters, making our recognition even more special. This honor signifies our 6th award from the prestigious professional organization.
This remarkable contemporary Cambridge home and woodland landscape near Harvard Square reinvents a decaying, overgrown property with a perched water table. Meaningful and enjoyable year-round garden living becomes a central theme for an accomplished and enlightened couple with children and pets living in an otherwise busy urban neighborhood. The house’s striking windows frame trees and garden spaces from the interior. The vibrant new moisture-loving woodland vegetation colonies below fully root the property in context and command attention as the rugged and adaptive plants evolve throughout the year. A carefully arranged matrix of hand-picked reclaimed granite slabs provides a fantastic new outdoor world, an inviting single step from the house’s main floor. Environmentally friendly products and re-purposed materials merge to create an outdoor-focused lifestyle for a busy family.
We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to collaborate with these awesome clients and their hand-picked team of talented professionals including Anmahian Winton Architects, SeaDAR Construction, and Martin Lucyk Landscape Construction. Special thank-you’s also go out to Olde New England Granite, Stone Farm, Select Horticulture, Artemisia Perennial Supply, Sylvan Nursery, Shadows and Light, and Corbett Irrigation for everyone’s efforts to help make this garden come to life. Last but not least, congratulations to all of our peers from many local firms whose projects are also celebrated in this year’s awards program! We look forward to seeing you all in May at the annual Gala!
We are so incredibly proud to share that MCLD has won three more awards from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers in their 2016 International Landscape Design Awards Program!!! These awards mark a total of twelve awards we’ve received from this incredible organization—and every single one is as meaningful as the next. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, but I am completely humbled to receive so much support from the APLD. It is such an honor to have our work out there to help promote the valuable contributions that landscape designers make throughout the international design community.
This year’s prestigious judging panel was composed of well-known experts in the field: Carolyn Mullet of Carex Design and the host of one of the World’s most popular gardening Facebook pages: Garden Design by Carolyn Mullet; educator, designer, and presenter, Greg Pierceall; and the esteemed garden designer Julie Moir Messervy, of the Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio. We will be attending the APLD International Design Conference this year in Sante Fe and we can’t wait to connect with everyone to celebrate!
Our two Gold Award winners this year are “Beacon Hill Courtyard” located in Boston, Massachusetts, crafted by R.P. Marzilli Landscape Construction of Medway, MA, and the “Cambridge Garden” located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, built by Martin Lucyk Landscape Construction of Acton, MA. Last but certainly not least is our Silver Award winner, “Clamshell Alley” located in Lamoine, Maine, built by Atlantic Landscape Construction.
The success of each one of these projects relies completely on the support and trust from our amazing clients who give us these amazing opportunities to collaborate with them on such meaningful spaces.
Congratulations goes to our peers who also won awards in this year’s Awards Program! We look forward to meeting you all and celebrating together in New Mexico this fall. Thank you so much APLD for recognizing our work again this year!!!
Imagine our complete surprise this morning to hear that Ocean Home Magazine has named MCLD as one of the Top Landscape Architecture Firms of 2016! We are very honored to be recognized alongside so many incredible design firms! If you happen to be passing through the pages of the 2016 April/May Issue, you’ll see one of Le Petit Chalet’s reclaimed granite terraces included in a story by writer Mary Grauerholz beginning on page 46. “Breathing Space” includes an interview with yours truly discussing how “the once humble outdoor patio is now a seamless extension of a home’s interior.” Thanks so much Mary and Ocean Home for this great exposure!
We are beyond excited to announce that MCLD has won a 2016 Best of Boston Home award for being one of the top landscape architecture firms in the region! Thank you Boston Home Magazine for this awesome honor, and congratulations to all of this year’s winners! We are filled with pride to see so many of our collaborators on the list, and feel quite humbled to be in such excellent company—we can’t wait to celebrate with you all on December 3rd!
We were pleasantly surprised yesterday by one of our all-time favorite garden blog sites: GARDENISTA, with a feature about our project, Le Petit Chalet, in Southwest Harbor, Maine! Our work on this property has been an incredible highlight for our firm, and the list of people to recognize for their contributions is extensive. You can read more about the project by visiting the American Society of Landscape Architects, 2014 Professional Awards page. Thank you Michelle Slatalla for thoughtfully including our work on Gardenista—it is an honor to be on your radar!
We very proudly share exciting news that MCLD has won a 2015 Residential Merit Award from the Boston Society of Landscape Architects for our “Winslow Garden” located in Cambridge! This honor signifies our 5th award from the prestigious professional organization.
As a space for any mood, this inspirational courtyard draws a successful urban executive outside into a sculpture-centered space where she can read, garden, and think alone in relative peace or share more lively moments with others. The serene landscape is tucked into a dense, often hectic part of Cambridge, Massachusetts. A sentimental piece of art from the client’s personal collection inspires a sliding aluminum gate, claiming center stage of the property. A crisp white dining set rests upon embedded linear slabs of reclaimed granite, and two contemporary Adirondack chairs nestle into an elevated corner. The design integrates water as both art—in the form of an antique-granite and stainless steel runnel—and as nourishment for the surrounding clusters of vegetation. The sculptural trees, shrubs, and season-shifting perennials are the perfect scale for the gardening homeowner.
Designing this courtyard, with this client, was an exceptional experience for me, and I am so grateful to have such good patrons! Special thank-you’s also go to Robert Hanss Landscape Construction, Ricci Brothers, Olde New England Granite, Metalsmiths, Select Horticulture, Artemisia Perennial Supply, Shadows and Light, Didriks, and Bay State Irrigation for everyone’s efforts to help make this garden come to life. Last but not least, congratulations to all of our peers from many local firms whose projects are also celebrated in this year’s awards program! We look forward to seeing you all in May at the annual Gala!
We are so proud to share awesome news that MCLD has won two more Gold Awards from the Association of Professional Landscape Designers in their 2015 International Landscape Design Awards Program!!! This announcement is especially meaningful to us because it signifies our 9th and 10th awards from this incredible organization. We are completely humbled to receive so much support from the APLD; we are also honored that our work can be used in any effort to promote the valuable contributions that landscape designers make throughout the international design community.
This year’s prestigious judging panel was composed of well-known experts in the field: John Greenlee, of Greenlee and Associates; Greg Pierceall, Professor Emeritus of Purdue University; and Julie Moir Messervy, of the Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio. We will be attending the APLD International Design Conference being held in Washington D.C. to accept our awards from October 8th to the 11th.
Our winners this year are “Kat’s Garden” located in Cambridge, MA, crafted in 2012/2013 by Robert Hanss Landscape Construction of Chestnut Hill, MA, and the “Longwood Garden” located in Brookline, MA, built in 2012 by Martin Lucyk Landscape Construction of Acton, MA. I would be remiss not to point out that the success of each of these projects relies completely on the support and trust of two very special clients who were willing to think “outside the box” about their properties. The results are verdant, balanced, and inviting gardens that we eagerly look forward to watching mature over the coming seasons.
Congratulations goes to our peers who also won awards in this year’s Awards Program! We look forward to meeting you all and celebrating together in Washington DC this fall. Thank you so much APLD for recognizing our work this year!!!
We don’t frequently have many opportunities to design landscapes with tennis courts, but for our Valentine Park project in West Newton, we pulled out all the stops…
We are very proud to announce that the project has been named “2014 Facility-of-the-Year” in the Residential Tennis Court category by the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA). The extensive list of collaborators for this project includes LDa Architects, Wellen Construction, Phil Mastroianni Landscape Construction, and Boston Tennis Court. I would be remiss not to mention the beautiful fence and pergola installation completed by Walpole Woodworkers. Thanks also to Roome & Guarracino, LLC, Columbia Design Group, Snelling and Hamel Associates, Nina Farmer Interiors, Maverick Home Integration, and Michael Lee Photography for each of your contributions to the project.
