COBB’S HILL GARDEN
CHILMARK, MASSACHUSETTS
An old horse pasture surrounded by wind-sculpted oaks provided the perfect opportunity for an outdoor-oriented family to build an ultimate summertime retreat on Martha’s Vineyard. Little did they know, November in this landscape would be one of the best seasons of all. A restrained palette composed predominantly of native, salt and drought-tolerant plants creates contrasting textures and colors that soften the architecture and provide multi-seasonal interest all-year-round. Worn slabs of reclaimed granite are thoughtfully positioned to form walkways and terraces that lead to a pool garden, fire pit, wood crib, and bocce court that overlooks a dramatic meadow. A bluestone dining terrace and grill wall create an easy space to entertain family and friends after a long day at the beach.
