FROST FISH COVE

ORLEANS, MASSACHUSETTS

From the moment the new owners of this sprawling waterfront property on Frostfish Cove stepped foot here, they knew this was the place they had long been looking for. A winding gravel drive leads past a charming guest cottage, beneath the canopies of mature pines, and along the edges of managed meadow, ultimately leading to a modern shingle-style home at the top of a restored coastal bluff. The site, once occupied by a dilapidated vacation home, is punctuated with sculptural cedars and maples all the way down to the water’s edge. The trees attract migratory birds and provide wonderful scale to the structures. Paths built from irregularly shaped bluestone and fieldstone steppers lead to terraces that radiate from the prime living areas of the home. An elevated stone hot tub overflows into the pool, and a board-formed concrete retaining wall serves as pool enclosure, ensuring that views of the water remain unobstructed. Gracious swaths of native plants spill across the property, softening edges, nourishing wildlife, and stabilizing soils.
