Sig Sandzén grew up near the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Greenville, South Carolina. Sig developed an interest in plants and their interrelationships from his father, who is equally inspired by the outdoors. Sig brings to his work a background in ecological systems, historic preservation, and cultural landscapes, along with an interest in narrative expression through design.

Sig holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia and a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Clemson University. During Sig’s graduate studies, he helped develop the University of Georgia’s Historic Preservation Master Plan and was Editor-in-Chief for the Georgia Landscape Magazine. Prior to MCLD, Sig worked at Richard Burck Associates and AECOM, with projects ranging from public open spaces to institutional planning and focusing on sustainable landscapes within the built environment.

Sig is currently trying to grow okra in Maine and enjoys exploring the Portland trails with his wife and very active toddler.
